Talking about Tribal Leadership, the best way to close the Knowing-Doing gap is to practice… to practice… to practice…
So, do you know anything better than an exercise?
In today´s post there´s a good one from the author of the book TRIBAL LEADERSHIP we dedicated a proper post last week (listen to David Logan @ TED).

This exercise provides a way to quickly identify a person’s core value using natural conversational language
While talking with someone, here is how you identify their core values.
Step 1: While listening to someone talk, notice a word or phrase that would be blue and underlined like a click on a web page. It is a word or short phrase that you can tell is important to them.
After you identify something that leaps out as very important to them, you are going to click down on that to find out what is beneath it by asking a question.
Step 2: Ask the other person an open ended question about the word or phrase they said in Step #1. You want to ask a question that further elicits conversation from them about why that is important. That question you ask them to take it deeper is the “click down.”
While the person is answering the “click down” question, listen once again for another word or phrase that represents something very important to them. When you identify another word or phrase that further represents something important to them and would be blue and underlined on a web page, then click again.
Conclusion: After a few iterations of clicking down into these values you will usually get to a core value.
How do you know you have found a core value?
Usually the other person goes quiet, or their response is something like, “That is important to me just because it is.” At the point when someone can’t explain any further. you know you are there. You have found a core value.
You can also use this process to discover your own personal core values by following these same two steps.
